Abstract

This paper examines the trends, determinants, opportunities, and challenges of foreign direct investment (FDI) in India during the liberalization period. Using secondary data from government sources, international agencies and academic literature, the study documents the evolution of FDI inflows by sector, source country and policy regime, analyzes the role of regulatory reforms and macroeconomic factors in attracting FDI, and identifies structural impediments that constrain investment quality and sustainability.
