Online Violence against Women in Cyberspace: Judicial Rperspective
Abstract
Violence against women exists in many forms and in all areas of society. With recent technological advancement and digital literacy policies have brought social media age, institutional challenges continue to persist, gender equality remaining one of the largest issues. Women in India continue to experience victimisation of online violence and it continues to remain majorly unreported due to patriarchal structures, fear of family rejection and inequality in offline society structure.1 Moreover, women who are public figures, belong to a particular group or work for social cause such as human rights activists, women politicians, bloggers, women influencers,
journalists, women from minorities, lesbian, transgender women and women with disabilities are particularly targeted by online violence.2
