Abstract

The paper focuses on the central characterGauri in Mulk Raj Anand’s novel The Old Woman and the Cow. It is the only novel through which Anand has paid his tribute to woman empowerment by creating such a unique memorable new woman character. Gauri is a young woman navigating the complexities of rural Indian society. The paper portrays the themes of gender conflicts, inequality, societal customs, and the confrontation and challenges faced by women in the patriarchal world.
